What’s a Host Family?

This post is also available in: Deutsch (German)

A host family is a family that is looking for a flexible and trustworthy childcare solution and therefore invites a young person from another country to take care of their children.

The family will experience a cultural exchange for a few months, one year or even two years and win a new family member. This experience will help the parents and the children to become more open-minded towards other countries, languages, cultures and religions and will expnd everyone’s horizon.

The host family provides the au pair with a private room, full board and pocket money. In some countries they also have to pay for the au pair’s insurance, in other countries the au pair is responsible to cover such expenses by themselves.
As a host family, parents and children accept someone from abroad as a family member and will make them feel comfortable and support them during their time they have to get used to the new area.
